About us

The Department of Commerce started functioning on 18th July 1978 with a pre-degree Commerce group of 60 students. Sri Abraham Varghese and Smt Seethadevi were the initial staff members to be appointed in the department. The department got sanction to start degree course on 7th august 1980 with a strength of 50 students. Prof. C Seethadevi was promoted as the Head of the Department as she had previous experience in teaching in Madras University. The department got the sanction to start Post Graduate Course in Commerce on 26th November 1981 with a sanctioned strength of 50 students. The Post Graduate Department of Commerce was elevated as an approved centre for research in commerce under Mahatma Gandhi University in the year 1997.At present there are 8 approved research guides and 32 research scholars The pre-degree course was delinked from the department in the year 2001 as a part of policy of Kerala Government. Justice Kurian Joseph , Prof. Antony George ,Prof.Gabriel Simon Thattil,Prof. Francis Joseph, Prof.  K A Mathew , Prof. Joy Joseph , Prof. V A Jose ,Prof. Mathew Jacob ,Prof. Antony D Parackal, Prof. Sr. Annie P K, Prof. P V Joseph ,Prof. T R Venkatesh.,  Prof. Baby Joseph, , Prof. Joy Joseph Puthussery, Prof. James Vallavanthara, Prof. T J Joseph, and Prof. Jojo Paul were the other faculties of the department.

Now, the commerce Department has 8 Assistant Professors including Prof. Nimmy A George (Head of Department), Dr. Sr. Tessy Thomas, Dr Seena Augustine, Prof. Ponni Joseph, Prof. Joseph Joy Puthussery, Prof. Ajay Joseph, Prof. Anton Joseph, Prof. Anika Talia Lopez.
