NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME

National Service Scheme, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Govt. of India, popularly known as NSS was launched in Gandhiji’s Birth Centenary Year 1969, in 37 Universities involving 40,000 students with primary focus on the development of personality of students through community service.

The objectives of National Service Scheme are to arouse in the volunteers a social conscience and to provide them with opportunity:-

  1. to work with and among people
  2. to engage in creative and constructive social action.
  3. to enhance his/her knowledge of himself/herself and the community.
  4. put his/her scholarship to practical use in mitigating at least some of the social problems.
  5. to gain skills in the exercise of democratic leadership; to gain skills in programme development to enable him/her for self-employment;
  6. to bridge the gulf between the educated and the uneducated masses and
  7. to promote the will to serve the weaker sections of the community.

The NSS unit of our college started functioning in 1972-73. Presently there are two NSS units in Bharata Mata College. Programme officers Prof. Anton Joseph and Prof.Anika Talia Lopez are giving leadership for NSS activities.

The volunteer secretaries for the academic year 2016-17 are Anjal Krishna and Lissat James.

Various events conducted by NSS unit in the academic year 2016- 17 are:

1. June 6th 2016

In connection with the World Environment Day Celebrations, NSS volunteers planted trees in and around the college ground. Rev. Fr.Jacob Palakappaly our manager inaugurated the function by planting a tree.



2. June 21st 2016

In relation to International Yoga Day celebrations, NSS volunteers performed Yoga Asanas under the supervision of Nethaji Naturopathy Yoga Hospital, Kakkanad. The programme was inaugurated by Dr.Iype Thomas our principal.



3. June 27th 2016

As a part of International Day against drug Abuse, all the NSS Volunteers made an Anti- Drug oath. Our Principal Dr. Iype Thomas addressed the NSS Volunteers.



4. July 16th 2016

One day camp was conducted for all the NSS Volunteers in the college campus. In the forenoon session, Volunteers prepared the action plan of NSS for the academic year 2016-17. Rev. Fr. Jacob Palakkapally our manager shared his ideas and visions about NSS during the camp. In the afternoon session, volunteers involved in farming activities held in premises of Commerce block. The camp was wound up at 4.00 pm.




5. Independence Day Celebration on 12th august 2016

As part of the 60th Independence Day celebrations the NSS Unit of our college conducted a rally. NSS volunteers along with the Principal, vice principals, manager and teachers took the swach bharat oath on the same day. Prizes were given to the best department for cleanliness. NSS Unit also conducted a PowerPoint presentation competition on the topic “swachh bharata mata : green campus clean campus”



6. Blood donation camp on 27th august 2016

The NSS Unit of our college conducted a blood donation camp on 27th august 2016. 50 students of our college donated blood.




7. NSS Pre-Republic Day Parade 7th TO 16th October 2016.

ABHIJITH K.S GOT SELECTED FROM MG UNIVERSITY AND PARTICIPATED IN THE NSS PRE-REPUBLIC DAY PARADE CAMP HELD AT NATIONAL COLLEGE , TIRUCHIRAPPALLI, TAMIL NADU FROM 7TH TO 16TH OCTOBER 2016.
