Bharata Mata social work department was started in 2004 by Rev. Dr. Varghese Kalaparambath (Founding Father) .The Post Graduate Programme in Social Work in Bharata Mata College Affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University is designed to develop qualified professionals to work in the field of social development and social welfare. Students of this programme are prepared to address issues related to Peace and Conflict, Gender and Society, Violence and Trauma, Social Development, Social Policy, Aging, Disability, Mental health, Poverty, Women Empowerment, Youth and Child welfare etc.MSW professionals get job opportunities as Project Managers, Field administrators, Counsellors etc., in Social welfare departments of state and central governments, Research organizations, Hospitals, Mental health setting, Family counselling centers, Educational institutions, Funding agencies, Nongovernmental organization and UN agencies.
