Department of Economics

B.A Degree course in Economics was introduced in our college in the year 1970 with a sanctioned strength of 40 students. Ever since its inception, the department is dedicated to its credit of producing potential students fit to meet the demands of this competitive society. The department strives to provide quality education with special emphasis on responsible citizenship, secular outlook and moral values by encouraging the academic and personal growth of students.

Strengths and Achievements

The faculty is actively involved in training of students to create a research aptitude with specific focus on mathematical economics which will enhance their chances for further career advancement. The department aims to create responsible citizens who intervene in their respective environment effectively.

Associations

Economics Association OIKONOMIA is a vibrant association in the college which creatively intervenes in various academic and co-curricular activities enhancing the all round development of students.Publication of department Manuscript ‘Ecospark’ is an initiative by the association to bring out the creative potential of the students.

 

Events

  • Entrepreneurship Fest: The Department exhibits regular attempts to inculcate the ideas of entrepreneurship among students through academic and hands on training. Entrepreneurship Fest is the most important one among them. It is a fest where student entrepreneurs get a chance to showcase their entrepreneurial skills and some budding entrepreneurs also address the campus with their innovative ideas. The department gets technical support from KITCO ltd, a leading consultancy firm in the city.
  • Outreach programmes: The Department always shows its commitment to society with a plethora of activities by intervening in various capacities to better the lives of people. Some such activities are:
  • “Bank Account for all” campaign in association with SBT Vazhakkala
  • ‘Know Digital Go Digital’ financial awareness drive to educate the public about the digital modes of financial transaction.
  • Conducted a rally with the motto of ‘Stand against Terrorism’ in the wake of terror attacks in France.
  • Distribution of study materials to the inmates of Boys Home, Thrikkakara in the beginning of every academic year.
