Bharata Mata College, located in Thrikkakara, Ernakulam district of Kerala is a cutting edge Arts and Science co-educational institute of higher education in the aided sector with special focus on research and educational technology. It was re-accredited at the A level by NAAC in 2014 and is affiliated to the Mahatma Gandhi University. Established in 1965 by His Eminence the late Joseph Cardinal Parecattil, the college is owned and managed by the Ernakulam-Angamaly Archdiocese. The College is the Mother Institution of the educational institutions under the Bharata Mata Trust. It was included under section 2 (f) and 12 (B) of UGC Act 1956 in 1976. Situated in the Seaport - Airport Road, the college is ideally located in the nerve centre of technological development in Kochi with Infopark, Cochin Special Economic Zone, super specialty hospitals, schools, libraries, chic shops and uptown hotels with conference halls in its vicinity.

Our Focus

Research

The vibrant and productive research community of the college comprise of 67.5% PhD holders and three PDF holders . The three research centres in Mathematics, Chemistry and Commerce has a total of 12 guides.Retired teachers as well as faculty from other reputed colleges share their research expertise in these centres. The active research culture of these centres have produced22 doctorates so far. In addition to this, the faculty of the College have a total of 252 research publications, many having high impact factor and citation index in leading International/National Journals, and 162 papers in Seminar Proceedings, during the last 5 years. The College has a total of 4 Major and 28 Minor research projects during the last 6 years. The college has received an amount of Rs.99.2 lakhs from 32 research projects in the last six years. The research projects in Material Science alone generated 49 lakhs during this period,many of which can be developed into practical projects for application. Some of these research works have been put forth to be patented. The three research departments have ample scope and facilities in bringing out collaborative innovative products of interdisciplinary nature.

Graduate Outcome

The students form the pivot around which all activities of the college revolve. The various curricular and co-curricular activities of the college enhance their academic capabilities and future potentials. The curricular and academic activities of the college are aimed at augmenting the quantitative and qualitative nature of the programmes offered, providing vertical and horizontal mobility, and in ensuring career orientation, skill development and the promotion of entrepreneurial skills. Along with the prescribed curriculum, and traditional teaching methods like lectures,assessments, quiz, note sharing, assignments etc., smart boards, ICT tools, projectors and new interactive software to conduct online exams etc are employed. State-of-the-art facilities are made available in taking forward the teaching-learning process. A fully automated open access library with 82566 books and 85 journals is one among them . There is provision to cater to differently abled students in the campus, library and the rest rooms.

Achievements

The high standards of student achievement is cemented by the integrated effort of all the stake holders of the institution. The College strives in creating a conducive atmosphere that ensures all round development of the students. A Zero Hour every week ensures the effective conduct of the activities of the various clubs and forums of the college. The activities of the student support organisations, and the outreach and extension programmes in collaboration with government agencies and NGOs provide experiential learning, as also on-the-job training and internships conducted by the vocational programmes . Manuscript magazines, wall magazines, news-letters, news papers etc. published by the various departments also enhance the teaching-learning process and promote creative talent.Involvement in service organizations such as NCC, NSS, AICUF etc. and participation in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities are encouraged for the holistic development of the students.

Scholarships and Awards

In addition to communicating and initiating financial assistance from State/Central Government and National agencies, institutional scholarships and freeships too are implemented by the College, the departments and the Campus ministry. A total of 33 awards/ scholarships have been instituted in various categories for student achievements. Each department has initiated Endowments and Scholarships for toppers in their respective subjects. The Campus ministry provides an annual scholarship to enterprising students from low income background. The Cardinal Parecattil Excellence Award instituted by the Management for the Best Student of each department is the jewel in the crown of the College. The Award is conferred on a student of the 23 UG and PG departments who achieves the maximum points as all- rounder during the academic year.
